How is this different from the standard Cottle nasal speculum?
The blades. This pattern is long and narrow so it works inside the septal pocket; the standard Cottle has broader blades for opening the vestibule and comes in four figure sizes.

Which length should I choose?
14 cm for routine septoplasty; 13 cm where a shorter instrument gives better control in a smaller nose. The blade shape is the same.

What does the side screw do?
It locks the blades at a set spread so the speculum holds the pocket open by itself, freeing both of the surgeon’s hands.

Will the blades tear a mucoperichondrial flap?
The interiors are polished and the edges rounded so flaps slide over them. Set the spread with the screw rather than forcing the handles open.
