These guidelines apply to reusable stainless steel instruments supplied by Gulmaher Surgico. Always follow your facility's validated reprocessing procedures.
Before first use
Instruments are supplied non-sterile. Remove all packaging, then clean and sterilize every instrument before its first use.
Cleaning after use
- Clean instruments as soon as possible after use. Do not let blood or tissue dry on the surface.
- Open hinged instruments and disassemble multi-part instruments before cleaning.
- Use a neutral or mild alkaline, enzymatic detergent. Clean manually with a soft brush or in an ultrasonic cleaner.
- Rinse thoroughly, preferably with distilled or deionized water, and dry completely.
Inspection and lubrication
- Check each instrument for damage, corrosion, loose parts and correct function before sterilizing.
- Lubricate hinges, box locks and moving parts with a water-soluble instrument lubricant.
Sterilization
Stainless steel instruments are suitable for steam sterilization (autoclave). Use a validated cycle in line with your facility's procedures and recognized standards such as ISO 17664 and AAMI ST79.
What to avoid
- Saline, chlorine or bleach solutions, which cause pitting and corrosion
- Steel wool, wire brushes and abrasive cleaners
- Mixing instruments of different metals in the same cleaning cycle
Storage
Store clean, dry instruments in a clean, dry area, protected from impact.
