How should obstetrical forceps be cleaned and sterilized?

Rinse off blood and debris straight after use, clean manually or in an ultrasonic cleaner with a neutral-pH detergent, rinse and dry thoroughly, then steam sterilize in an autoclave. Open ratchets and joints during cleaning and sterilization, and lubricate hinges with instrument milk to keep them working smoothly.
