Walter Osteotome-Chisel Notched Edge 3 and 5 mm, 19 cm - 7-1/2˝

The Walter notched edge osteotome-chisel carries a V cut into the cutting edge so the blade straddles a bony ridge rather than shearing across it, supplied in 3 mm and 5 mm on a 19 cm shaft. In rhinoplasty and septal work the notch rides the septal crest and keeps the osteotome tracking along the line of the ridge, where a flat edge would wander off it. Pick your width from the dropdown. Bulk discounts apply on multi-piece orders.

Why Surgeons Choose It

  • V notch straddles a bony spine or crest and holds the line of the cut
  • 3 mm and 5 mm cover the widths used in nasal and septal bone work
  • Two cutting points start the cut on either side of the ridge
  • Flattened octagonal grip stops the blade rolling through the strike
  • One-piece forged body transmits mallet force without flex

Built for Repeated Use

Forged and ground from AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel, hardened so the two cutting points of the notch stay sharp and square through repeated mallet work. The satin finish resists staining and cuts glare under operating lights, and the one-piece body has no joint to loosen or trap debris. Full autoclave cycles at 134 °C cause no distortion or pitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the notch for?
It straddles a bony spine or septal crest so the blade sits over the ridge and cuts along it, rather than shearing across it and sliding off.

Which width should I choose?
3 mm for a narrow crest or confined access; 5 mm for a broader ridge. Surgeons doing regular septal work usually keep both.

How does it differ from the concave edge version?
The concave edge is a continuous hollow curve for seating on rounded bone. The notched edge has a distinct V with two cutting points, made to bracket a ridge.

Can the edge be resharpened?
Yes, by a competent instrument workshop, but the notch geometry and both points must be preserved. A straight regrind destroys the function.

Do you supply both widths as a set?
Yes. Pick each width from the dropdown and tell us it is a set order; bulk discounts apply on multi-piece and full-set quantities.

Is it supplied sterile?
No. It ships clean and non-sterile, ready for your own cleaning and autoclave cycle at 134 °C before first use.
