How to Choose a Liposuction Cannula
Diameter controls speed and precision. Larger cannulas (4–6 mm) remove volume quickly from deep fat layers, while smaller cannulas (2–3 mm) give smoother contouring near the skin and in delicate areas such as the neck. Length should reach the full treatment zone from the access incision: short cannulas for the face, 25–35 cm for the abdomen, thighs and back. Tip and port pattern decide what the cannula does: blunt multi-hole tips (Tonnard, Coleman-style, spiral) harvest small, viable fat parcels for grafting; Mercedes, Cobra and pyramid tips aspirate efficiently; V-dissector and etching tips release fibrous tissue and define muscle lines. Hub choice (Luer lock, Toomey or threaded) must match your syringes or aspiration tubing.
